What transpired psychologically to result in creative genius or political success?
The question is posed whether the orphan experience and bereavement in the prototype necessary for either creativity and /or leadership… An investigation of 251 writers, 177 statesmen, 108 philosophers, 95 scientists-scholars, 57 artists, 23 composers, and others is reported found to be characteristic of these individuals. General population, juvenile-delinquent, and psychiatric-patient data are examined for comparative rates of loss. Among the questions receiving serious attention in this work.

“ Parental loss and Achievement is a compilation of four articles which focus on what appears to be a disproportionate number of individuals, prominent in political, religious, and creative fields, who suffered the loss of a parent by death in childhood.
Three of the articles written by Pierre Rentchnick,, Pierre deSenarclens and Andre’ Haynal, are translated from the French, Les Orphelins, Menent-ils le Monde?’. The fourth article by Marvin Eisenstadt, is reprinted from the American Psychologist, 1978.
The introduction, by Eisenstadt, indicates that their collaborative intent is to determine ‘What transpired psychologically to yield such achievement?’ Later he indicates that we know more about the negative effects of death or a parent or loss of family, while the [positive outcome of trauma, i.e. outstanding success and achievement, is rarely delineated in the literature.
